Peter Thiel: “Something seems to have gone quite wrong with cleantech”

Cleantech companies just can’t seem to get it right.

At least, that’s the point of view Peter Thiel, the Facebook investor and cofounder of PayPal and Clarium Capital, subscribes to when he looks at cleantech companies as potential investing opportunities. In particular, Thiel takes issue with how much of alternative energy is still being sold at a premium, citing solar panels as an example of technology that is not yet cost-efficient. In his comments last week at a San Francisco event, he suggested entrepreneurs and the government look to opportunities in the energy-efficient and more emissions-friendly sectors of nuclear energy and natural gas.
