| | | | | | | Are fleet sales the future of electric cars? GE will take 25,000, please GE announced last week it will buy a record-setting 25,000 electric cars by 2015. Almost half will come from GM, starting with the Chevy Volt. It's yet another move into the world of electric vehicles for GE, a major player in the energy world which estimates it will reap $500 million in near-term revenues just from electric-vehicle infrastructure. But GE's purchase also underscores the importance of fleet sales in growth and adoption of electric vehicles. Electric-car startup Coda (which lost its CEO last week) has said it wants to sell 14,000 of its electric sedans by the end of 2011 and expects 40 to 50 percent of those sales to go to fleets. Early on, Nissan inked a fleet purchase deal for its all-electric Leaf with Hertz. | | | TOP STORIES UPCOMING EVENTS | | VENTUREBEAT JOB BOARD | | | COMPANIES IN THE NEWS Coda, GE, GM, Nissan, SunPower, Facebook, Tesla, OnGreen , Enerkem, Coskata, Ineos Bio, OnGreen | | | PEOPLE IN THE NEWS | | | | | | Provided by , the leading news source on technology innovation. 50 California Street, Suite 3270, San Francisco, CA 94111 If you would like to no longer receive this newsletter, click here to change your subscription preferences, or click here to unsubscribe. © 2010 VentureBeat | |
